“When we first saw the site in 2023, the civil work was already initiated and was in a dire need of transformation as per clients’ vision. We redesigned everything from the basic placement, and changing the constricted sizes of doors and windows to grand and wide openings. The space has been crafted to encourage engagement and a flow of spaces as one steps up the various levels from the entrance to the different areas.” The architect adds that he is deeply inspired by the ideologies of clean, sharp, horizontal, and vertical alignments by the renowned American architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Located in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh the residence concretizes a perfect blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal, providing an exquisite living experience. The concept itself flows like a masterfully composed piece of music. Each space from the entrance to the terrace, represents the smooth progression of symphonic notes.

Walk this way to the echoes of elegance

Imagine standing at the entrance of a magnificent estate, surrounded by lush landscaping and bathed in natural light that highlights the stone-clad exterior. As you stroll, the gentle sounds of rustling leaves and flowing water from a Buddha-adorned fountain, along with the fragrance of blooming flowers, create a serene and refreshing atmosphere.

Carefully planned pathways offer new perspectives of the striking facade, combining travertine and textured gray elements with expansive window walls and granite flooring amidst greenery, enhancing the luxurious ambiance.

Alongside, a balcony visually connects indoor and outdoor spaces, while a louvered pergola on the terrace adds architectural balance. The passage leads to the rear garden, a peaceful retreat surrounded by greenery and featuring a well-designed seating area, perfect for family gatherings.

“The idea permeated through the double-heighted space and curtains, the view of the garden, and the calmness surrounding the space, so it was a bold decision not to lavish the space with panels.” the architect’s vision for the drawing room. This space, characterized by oversized windows and a lofty ceiling, is crafted to signify equilibrium. The clean lines and uncluttered palette contribute a sense of order and serenity, and the garden views envelop the space, adding a layer of blissful composure to the ambiance.

Pause and Ponder: the essence of details and design in each space

Upon entering the family core space, the shades of deep browns, bright whites, and refined grays fill up the living area which seamlessly connects to the kitchen and dining area, enhanced by an elevator and staircase for vertical access. The kitchen features a utility store linked to the wash area and backyard lawn for convenience. The surrounding walls of the winder-type staircase are adorned with minimalist grooved patterns, and tinted black panels create a textured backdrop enriched by sunlight from the glass skylight. To the northeast, the mandir offers views of the front lawn, with elegant mother-of-pearl engravings on the vietnam white stone, adorned with Radha Krishna sculptures, and bespoken painted artwork of Ganesha.

“My parents love the morning sun and walking through the garden; they have a deep appreciation for nature,” says the client. The parents’ bedroom features subtle tones, with glass sliding doors connecting to the front lawn through a verdant alley that merges nature’s beauty with comfort, offering views of the lawn’s lush, sprawling greenery.

The family lobby on the first floor is a luminous space that acts as a nexus between the masters’ and kids’ bedrooms, fostering connectivity. The artwork depicting leaves adds a dramatic touch, giving the place a bold enhancement. The overall feel for the space is welcoming and as eclectic as one would expect.

Ar. Kulveer explains, “Our design philosophy emphasizes the seamless flow of spaces, ensuring smooth transitions and a natural connection between areas enhancing functionality and imparting a sense of openness. Every element is hand-picked from furniture and fixtures to handcrafted artwork, complementing and creating a cohesive visual narrative to prioritize both form and function to enhance the living experience.”

The master bedroom radiates luxury and privacy with tones of ivory, beige, and darker shades, complemented by furniture, fixtures, and textures. A handcrafted portrait of the couple adds a personal touch, while window-side sofa seating offers a cozy, intimate space. In the kids’ room, a bluish-gray tone fosters happy and calm moods, featuring their favorite superhero theme. Each space in the home is thoughtfully designed, blending practicality and beauty to meet specific preferences such as the theater room combining coziness with a bold twist, featuring a daring color palette and vintage wallpapers depicting soothing scenes.

The house aimed to be more than just a structure; it sought to be a living, breathing entity that responded to the needs of its inhabitants and its urban context breaking free from the monotony of modern homes with their uniform aesthetics and homogenized suburban landscapes.
